Job description

Role Summary

The General Superintendent will develop and execute the project plan and oversee all aspects of assigned projects with significant complexity. This position will be responsible for managing the team, planning all construction sequencing, and meeting project goals. All activities will support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

SUPERINTENDENT FAMILY - CORE

  • Lead safety culture, demonstrate commitment to an injury-free environment, investigate incidents, and retrain staff as needed.
  • Manage subcontractors and organize overall job and workflow.
  • Oversee company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEOC for projects.
  • Develop work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
  • Coordinate project site care, custody, and control.
  • Lead meetings including daily standups and weekly trade meetings.
  • Participate in progress and project OAC meetings.
  • Create and manage project schedules in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Monitor project budget and costs using project management systems.
  • Communicate key project information to stakeholders.
  • Maintain project documentation and logs.
  • Approve unit cost information and complete reports.
  • Evaluate progress and adjust plans accordingly.
  • Manage material and equipment needs.
  • Support procurement and approval processes.
  • Assist in selecting tools and equipment for self-perform operations.
  • Manage timecard approvals for accurate reporting.
  • Ensure quality compliance and support project closeouts.
  • Participate in project pursuit processes and pre-planning.
  • Establish field staffing and manage project changes in collaboration with project management.
  • Participate in negotiations with owners and architects.
  • Contribute to project reviews and subcontractor meetings.
  • Understand and apply contractual terms.
  • Identify and recruit top talent and promote diversity and inclusion.
Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core

GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT

  • Manage large, complex projects from planning to completion.
  • Oversee multiple projects and teams.
  • Lead strategic initiatives and develop training content.
  • Deliver leadership messages effectively.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Perform work accurately, timely, and thoroughly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and project management software.
  • Knowledge of construction management fundamentals, trades, self-perform work, budgeting, and productivity.
  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate, and understand project documentation and changes.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
  • 12+ years construction experience, including 10+ years in field supervision.
  • Experience managing large aviation projects (>75M).
  • Lean principles experience preferred.
Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license required.
