Responsibilities of a Traveling Equipment Operator

• Operate trenching and digging equipment safely across various sites
• Install and maintain underground fiber optic and telecom lines
• Restore and landscape disturbed areas
• Dig pits, trenches, and potholes as per plans, crossing utilities manually or mechanically
• Prepare sites and clean up after work
• Load/unload tools, materials, and equipment
• Set safety perimeters with signage, cones, barriers, and manage traffic as needed

Qualifications

• Ability to follow instructions
• Basic skills with small and hand tools
• Ability to read work orders, safety rules, and instructions
• Valid CDL with acceptable driving record
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Safety-conscious attitude
• Effective communication with team, clients, and vendors
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency calls
• Extended travel required within Telcom's service area

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in construction or utility work
• Ability to interpret utility maps and prints

Physical Requirements

• Climb into/out of equipment
• Lift/carry up to 50 lbs regularly, up to 100 lbs as needed
• Perform tasks involving standing, crouching, sitting, bending, reaching, and manual handling
• Work in safety gear and adverse weather conditions
• Visual acuity for detailed work and safety

Pay Range: $23 - $32 / Hr
