The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Dental assistants prepare patients for oral examination and assist other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Dental assistants must work effectively with co-workers including Specialty dental assistants, patients, and the front office by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner. A successful dental assistant will execute active listening to objectively consider ideas and suggestions from others, keep commitments; keep others informed of work progress, and address problems constructively to identify practical business solutions.

Specialty Dental Assistants: If assigned within specialty areas including: Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics or Pediatric, they will primarily support clinicians within that specialty and may require additional training.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform functions in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Actively participate in the PPE by striving to keep your patients focused on optimal treatment while attending to their individual needs and concerns.
  3. Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to other team members as appropriate.
  4. Communicate with the front and back office teams to ensure the Orthodontists schedule runs smoothly and efficiently.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment.
  6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; clean each operatory in accordance with the state applicable infection control guidelines.
  7. Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist, enabling efficient, quality dental treatment.
  8. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures of patients as directed by the clinician, efficiently and timely.
  9. Prepare tray setups for dental procedures and maintain supplies in each operatory, replenishing as needed.
  10. Keep patients' mouths dry and clear using suction or other devices.
  11. Instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care as directed by the clinician.
  12. Record patient charting and clinician’s notes in the digital patient chart.
  13. Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history to the clinician prior to treatment.
  14. Ensure equipment is maintained according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
  15. Work closely with Lead Dental Assistant to ensure clinical supplies are available.
  16. Utilize technology by learning how to operate and explain/demonstrate to others.
  17. Participate in daily huddles, team meetings, and other required meetings.
  18. Model company culture, values, standards, and best practices based on “We Believes.”
  19. Demonstrate stewardship of the PDS Brand and decision-making aligned with the brand framework.
  20. Implement the Perfect Patient Experience process to gain Patients for Life.
  21. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor, addressing others respectfully.
  22. Ensure compliance with company policies, and regulatory bodies.
  23. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED, plus required state training/certification.
  2. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations as mandated by state.
  3. Specialty Dental Assistants must have a valid driver’s license and insurance, or reliable transportation for travel between offices.
  4. Travel may be planned or unplanned and is subject to change.

Preferred

  1. One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent experience.

  3. Interact effectively with clinicians and owners.
  4. Interpret and apply policies and procedures.

  7. Operate basic computer software.
  8. Be results-oriented, self-motivated, and reliable.
  9. Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  11. Work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

Compensation: $18.75-$26.25 / Hourly
