Role Overview

The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They prepare patients for oral examinations and assist dental professionals in providing treatment to teeth, mouth, and gums. Effective collaboration with co-workers, including Specialty Dental Assistants, patients, and front office staff, is essential. A successful dental assistant demonstrates active listening, keeps commitments, communicates progress, and addresses problems constructively.

Specialty Dental Assistants

If assigned within specialty areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric Dentistry, the assistant will support clinicians within that specialty and may require additional training.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform functions according to state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Participate actively in PPE by focusing on patient care and addressing individual needs.
  3. Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to team members as appropriate.
  4. Coordinate with front and back office teams to ensure smooth scheduling.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment.
  6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment following infection control guidelines.
  7. Prepare patients for treatment and assist dentists to enable efficient, quality care.
  8. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures efficiently as directed.
  9. Prepare tray setups and replenish supplies in operatory rooms.
  10. Use suction and other devices to keep the patient’s mouth dry and clear.
  11. Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care as directed.
  12. Record patient charting and clinician notes in the digital system.
  13. Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history.
  14. Ensure equipment is maintained per manufacturer’s guidelines.
  15. Work with Lead Dental Assistant to manage supplies.
  16. Operate and demonstrate technology effectively.
  17. Participate in team meetings and huddles.
  18. Model company culture and uphold standards based on “We Believe”.
  19. Implement the PPE process to foster Patient for Life.
  20. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor, respecting policies and regulations.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED; state-mandated training/certification.
  2. Valid certificates, licenses, or registrations as required by state.
  3. For Specialty Assistants: valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation; background and motor vehicle record checks required.
  4. Travel between multiple offices as needed.
Preferred Qualifications

One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent experience.

Compensation

$24.75 - $34.50 per hour
