The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They prepare patients for oral examination and assist other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Dental assistants must work effectively with co-workers including Specialty dental assistants, patients, and the front office by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner. A successful dental assistant will execute active listening to objectively consider ideas and suggestions from others, keep commitments; keep others informed of work progress, and address problems constructively to identify practical business solutions.

Specialty Dental Assistants: If assigned within specialty areas including Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric dentistry, they will primarily support clinicians within that specialty and may require additional training.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform functions in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Actively participate in the PPE by striving to keep patients focused on optimal treatment while attending to their individual needs and concerns.
  3. Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to other team members as appropriate.
  4. Communicate with the front and back office teams to ensure the schedule runs smoothly and efficiently.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment.
  6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; clean each operatory per infection control guidelines.
  7. Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist, enabling efficient, quality dental treatment.
  8. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures as directed by the clinician.
  9. Prepare tray setups for procedures and maintain supplies.
  10. Keep the patients' mouths dry and clear using suction or other devices.
  11. Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care.
  12. Record patient charting and clinician’s notes in the digital chart.
  13. Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history prior to treatment.
  14. Ensure equipment is maintained according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
  15. Work with Lead Dental Assistant to ensure supplies are available.
  16. Learn and operate technology, providing explanations to others.
  17. Participate in team meetings and adhere to company culture and standards.
  18. Model company values and implement the Perfect Patient Experience.
  19. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
  20. Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED; required training courses for certification/licensing.
  2. Valid certificates/licenses as mandated by state.
  3. For Specialty Dental Assistants: valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
  4. Travel may be required; plan accordingly.

Preferred

  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Effective communication, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies, manuals, and regulations.
  • Proficiency with basic computer software.
  • Results-oriented, customer service focused, self-motivated, organized, and discreet with patient records.

Compensation: $18.75-$26.25/hourly
