Role Overview

The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They prepare patients for oral examination and assist other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Effective communication and teamwork are essential.

Specialty Dental Assistants

If assigned within specialty areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric Dentistry, additional training may be required.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform functions in accordance with state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Participate actively in PPE, focusing on patient-centered care.
  3. Escort patients and introduce them to team members.
  4. Communicate effectively with the team to ensure smooth scheduling.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile environment and sterilize instruments.
  6. Prepare patients and assist dentists during procedures.
  7. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures efficiently.
  8. Prepare tray setups and maintain supplies.
  9. Ensure patient comfort and provide oral health instructions.
  10. Record patient information accurately in digital charts.
  11. Support patient care with proper documentation and record presentation.
  12. Maintain equipment and supplies.
  13. Utilize and operate dental technology.
  14. Participate in team meetings and uphold company culture and values.
  15. Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; additional state-mandated training or certification.
  • Valid licenses or registrations as required by state.
  • For Specialty Assistants: valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to interpret policies and operate computer software.
