Qualifications

• Commercial field superintendent with 3–5 years in restaurant/retail buildouts.
• Advanced proficiency reading architectural blueprints, structural details, MEP drawings.
• Proficient with smartphones and laptops for daily site reporting and documentation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to direct trade crews and client stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel extensively across multi-state regional projects (VA, MD, NC, SC, DC).

Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise on-site activities and subcontractors for restaurant and retail buildouts.

The Opportunity

B&L Construction Inc is seeking an experienced Traveling Commercial Construction Superintendent (Restaurant & Retail Focus) to lead on-site field operations across restaurant buildouts, retail brand rollouts, and commercial renovations throughout Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C.

In this autonomous field leadership role, you will take total ownership of jobsite execution—managing trade subcontractors, enforcing quality control, maintaining aggressive schedules, and ensuring full compliance with architectural plans and local building codes. Working directly with project managers, client representatives, and municipal inspectors, you will represent a multi-state licensed contractor established in 2001. Key Responsibilities

• Daily On-Site Field Leadership: Direct, sequence, and supervise all on-site activities, trade subcontractors, and material deliveries for commercial restaurant and retail buildouts.
• Blueprint & Spec Interpretation: Read, interpret, and build directly from construction plan sets, MEP schematics, scope documents, and manufacturer installation manuals.
• Schedule Architecture & Velocity: Monitor daily construction progress, adjust sub-trade workflows, resolve site bottlenecks, and coordinate deliveries to keep builds on schedule.
• Safety & OSHA Enforcement: Implement jobsite safety protocols, hold weekly safety meetings (toolbox talks), and maintain strict compliance with OSHA regulations and local safety laws.
• Quality Control & Auditing: Inspect ongoing trade work (framing, MEP rough-ins, finish trades) to verify full compliance with client brand standards and architectural specifications.
• Digital Documentation & Reporting: Take daily/weekly progress photos, complete digital job logs, maintain daily site updates, and communicate updates to B&L project managers and client teams using mobile tools.
• Stakeholder Liaison: Maintain professional, transparent communication with client operations teams, property managers, subcontractors, material suppliers, and building inspectors.

What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)

Required

• Commercial Super Tenure: Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a Field Superintendent in commercial general contracting, with strong preference for restaurant, retail, or national brand buildouts.
• Plan & Scope Literacy: Advanced proficiency reading architectural blueprints, structural details, MEP drawings, and technical scope documents.
• Technical & Mobile Competency: Proficiency using smartphones and laptops for daily site photos, digital reporting, email correspondence, and plan review tools.
• Communication & Leadership: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to direct trade crews and interact professionally with client stakeholders.
• Mobility & Driver Credentials: Valid driver license with reliable personal transportation and complete willingness to travel extensively across multi-state regional projects (VA, MD, NC, SC, DC).

Preferred

• Specialized Scope Experience: Specific background managing high-velocity restaurant buildouts (kitchen equipment, grease traps, gas lines, hood systems) or commercial retail interiors.
• Safety Credentials: Active OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
