Job summary

Clean Harbors is seeking a Territory Class B Driver to provide primary route coverage for the assigned District, operating mainly Class B Box Trucks with potential to handle Tanker/Vacuum and Lube Delivery duties as business needs require.

This is a high-travel role, averaging approximately three out of four weeks per month, with the opportunity to support the employee's home branch about one week per month.

Job description

Safety-Kleen is seeking a Territory Class B Driver (Utility Driver) to provide primary route coverage for the assigned District as well as other Districts as needed to support vacation, sick time, and turnover.

This position will primarily operate Class B Box Trucks, with opportunities to operate Tanker/Vacuum Trucks and Lube Delivery Trucks as business needs require.

This is a high-travel position, averaging approximately three out of four weeks per month, with approximately one week per month supporting the employee's home branch. Travel assignments will generally take place during the workweek, with employees typically traveling to the assigned branch on Monday and returning home Friday. Depending on the distance to the assignment, Monday and/or Friday may include a combination of travel and route coverage.

Employees are not generally required to remain away from home over the weekend. When continuing an assignment the following week, employees may elect to remain in the area over the weekend, with eligible lodging and meal expenses covered by the Company.

This role is ideal for an experienced route driver who is self-sufficient, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in unfamiliar territories and customer routes. The Utility Driver will also play an important role in helping train and transition newly hired Sales & Service Representatives into their assigned routes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner
• Provide route coverage across the region for vacancies, vacations, sick time, turnover, and other operational needs
• Primarily operate Class B Box Trucks, with the potential to operate Tanker/Vacuum Trucks and Lube Delivery Trucks as needed
• Travel to and support multiple branch locations throughout the assigned region
• Quickly learn unfamiliar routes, territories, customers, and branch operations
• Work independently and make sound decisions in the field with limited day-to-day supervision
• Assist with training newly hired Sales & Service Representatives and transitioning routes to permanent route employees
• Serve as a knowledgeable resource to new employees on route procedures, customer expectations, safety standards, and Company processes
• Operate commercial trucks and assist field laborers when needed in a team atmosphere where everyone helps
• Load and unload trucks
• Ensure customer satisfaction at time of service
• Properly placard vehicles to meet Company and DOT requirements/regulations
• Maintain daily logs, time sheets, and various reports
• Follow all local, state, and federal compliance regulations and rules
• Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state, and federal requirements
• Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures
• Observe all Company environmental, health, and safety operating guidelines
• Perform other duties as assigned
• By position, ability to be on call for emergency response on a rotating basis
• By position, perform site remediation, equipment decontamination, and handling of hazardous materials

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

• Valid Class B CDL at time of hire
• Obtain Hazmat and Tanker endorsements within 90 days of employment
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately three out of four weeks per month
• Ability to independently manage changing routes, territories, and customer needs
• Strong work ethic, dependability, and ability to take initiative
• Ability to use various mobile devices
• Perform physical functions per job requirements
• Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous commercial route-driving experience
• Previous Class B box-truck experience
• Previous experience training, mentoring, or onboarding other drivers or employees
• Hazmat and Tanker endorsements
• Previous Hazmat experience
• Vacuum truck experience
• Ability to operate a manual transmission
• Previous manual labor experience

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

Successful candidates will be comfortable stepping into routes and territories they may not have previously worked. This position requires someone who can take initiative, think on their feet, solve problems independently, and adapt quickly without requiring constant direction from branch management. Because Utility Drivers may provide coverage until a permanent Sales & Service Representative is hired, successful candidates should also be comfortable helping train and develop new employees before transitioning the route to them. New Utility Drivers should expect approximately six weeks of hands‑on training with experienced Sales & Service Representatives before being fully independent in the role.
