GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Traveling Carpenter for J.J. Taylor Companies, Inc. and National Equipment Dealers will be responsible for executing a wide range of carpentry and general construction tasks across multiple locations. This role requires travel throughout Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Texas to support property renovations, new site setups, and ongoing facility improvements. The Carpenter will work with various building materials, perform framing, drywall, trim, and cabinetry work, and assist with general building maintenance. In addition to hands-on responsibilities, this position will lead and direct laborers and construction helpers on job sites, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to company standards. This position reports directly to the Real Estate Development Manager.
- Performs rough and finish carpentry work, including framing, cabinetry, trim, and general woodwork.
- Builds and performs a variety of physical labor duties on construction and renovation projects.
- Experience with drywall, tile/flooring, painting, and minor plumbing and electrical work is preferred.
- Assembles and installs office and commercial furniture, fixtures, and signage.
- Installs smart devices, mounts TVs, and hangs artwork, whiteboards, and shelving as needed.
- Reads and interprets basic construction plans, diagrams, and written instructions.
- Transfers from one task to another often working independently and with minimal supervision.
- Leads and directs laborers and construction helpers.
- Responsible for following safety protocols and ensuring work is completed efficiently and safely.
- Ensures job sites are kept clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
- Punctuality, organization, and time management are essential to meet project deadlines.
- Maintains a professional demeanor when interacting with team members, vendors, or on-site personnel.
- Maintains proper care and storage of hand tools, equipment, and materials.
Additional Duties And Responsibilities:
- Performs any additional duties and special tasks assigned by Real Estate Development Manager.
- May assist in coordinating deliveries, vendor scheduling, or other on-site logistics.

Educational/Vocational/Previous Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in carpentry, handyman services, or general construction (Required).
- Experience with both residential and light commercial renovations strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (Required).
Working Conditions:
- Extensive travel required across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Texas. Most trips run from Monday through Friday.
- Work in warehouse, office, and active construction environments.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and machinery with moving parts.
- Possible exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including wet or humid environments.
- May be exposed to loud noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and other hazards related to construction sites.
