The Certified Surgical Assistant, who scrubs in at the field and works as the surgeon's other hand, must have an OR First Assist Certification and a CERTIFICATE/DEGREE in SURGICAL ASSISTING from an accredited school. Certification is typically from the NBSTA, obtained after passing their exam. In Virginia, a VIRGINIA LICENSE issued from the VDH is also required. If an applicant has applied and is awaiting approval, we are still interested in interviewing them. RNFA is an equivalent position, requiring completion of a First Assistant program and an RN license equivalent to Virginia licensing requirements. Some candidates may also hold a Surgical Scrub Technologist degree, but they must have an ASSISTANT degree and a Virginia license to qualify.

Unit details:

Number of Beds – 16 Operating rooms
Number of Staff – One team of RN, SA, and surgical tech per OR, on day shift with tapering on evenings. Call on weekends and nights.
Type of staff: Day Shift – 16 RN, 16 SA, 16 surgical techs; Evening shift – tapered teams; Night shift – call only.
Patient Ratios – 1-1
Type of equipment – OR equipment including Robotics, neurosurgery, general, plastics, urology, ortho, etc.
EMR – Meditech

Must have:

Robotic experience
Ortho experience

Preferred:

Neurosurgical experience

Typical procedures include all except transplant and cardiac surgery.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Tech preferred. Candidates without these skills will not be considered.
