Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years CVOR surgical technologist experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • CST certification preferred.
  • Active license required, if applicable.
  • Strong CVOR background across all specialties with ability to work independently in complex cardiac and thoracic cases.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with CVOR cases, including cardiac and thoracic procedures.
  • Work with Circulator RN and Med RN per case to support high-acuity surgeries.
  • Maintain proficiency with Epic EMR, Alaris, Pyxis, and DaVinci XI per case.
  • Adhere to on-call requirements and 24/7 anesthesia/house supervisor coverage.

American Traveler seeks a CVOR Surgical Technologist with strong cardiovascular surgery experience for a Level III Trauma Center's high-acuity CVOR unit.

Details
  • 8-bed CVOR unit within a Level III Trauma Center and Magnet-designated, 938-bed hospital with a Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • Averages 10 cases per day across cardiac and thoracic specialties
  • Patient types include CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic cases (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and fem-pop bypass
  • 5x8hr day shifts, Monday through Friday, with 0530-0630 flex start times
  • Uses Epic EMR (required), Alaris, Pyxis, and DaVinci XI robotic system
  • No routine floating; may assist with procedures in other departments where cardiac surgeons are involved (Cath Lab, Main OR)
  • On-call requirement of approximately one weekend (24-hour Sat/Sun 0700-0700) and up to one end-of-shift call per week, with a 30-minute response time
  • Holiday coverage is on-call only, as needed
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of CVOR surgical technologist experience required
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program required
  • BLS certification required
  • CST certification preferred
  • Active license required, if applicable
  • Strong CVOR background across all specialties with ability to work independently in complex cardiac and thoracic cases
  • Experience working in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • Middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
Additional Information
  • Support cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures including CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic surgeries, generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and fem-pop bypass
  • Work alongside a surgical team that includes a Circulator RN and Med RN per case
  • Unit support includes a Department Supervisor, Manager, Team Lead, Surgical Assistant Lead, and 24/7 Anesthesia and House Supervisor coverage
  • Weekend program includes shared supervisor coverage across Main OR and CVOR
  • 2 weeks of orientation provided
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Free on-site parking with cafeteria and Starbucks available
  • First-time travelers are not recommended for this position
  • Former Advocate Health employees must be separated for at least 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
  • Facility accepts local candidates at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
  • Up to 7 days of time off may be approved; additional requests require further approval
