Summary

The Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates, diagnoses, and treats communication and swallowing disorders in patients of all ages. They develop individualized treatment plans and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve communication outcomes and overall quality of life.

Essential Work Functions
  • Utilize standardized assessments and clinical observation to evaluate speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders across a diverse patient population
  • Design personalized therapy programs based on evaluation findings, patient goals, and evidence‑based practices
  • Continuously assess patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and maintain detailed, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on effective communication strategies, home‑based exercises, and safe swallowing practices, offering supportive counseling as required
  • Work in conjunction with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate a comprehensive approach to patient care
  • Maintain a safe treatment environment by adhering to infection control protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards while addressing patients’ comfort needs during therapy sessions
  • Engage in quality assurance initiatives and professional development activities to remain current with best practices in speech language therapy
  • Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice
Required Essential Skills
  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical Abilities: Must be able to remain stationary, move about, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
  • Interpersonal Skills: Must work effectively with a variety of personnel and present a positive attitude and professionalism
  • Technical/Motor Skills: Must grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures or using department equipment
  • Mental Requirements: Must cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure; work under occasional close supervision or independently; handle irregular activity schedules and maintain concentration to detail
  • Sensory: Must possess visual acuity and ability to communicate effectively
