Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced Surgical ICU RN for night shift, caring for neurosurgery, vascular, thoracic, and transplant patients in a Level I trauma environment.

Position requires active PA or Compact RN license, BLS/ACLS, and 2+ years SICU experience. Night hours are 19:00–07:00 with a 1:2 patient ratio and occasional float to other units. First-time travelers welcomed.

Qualifications

• Active PA or Compact RN license required in hand.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; TNCC preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of SICU experience required.
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred.
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
• Labs and critical care skills including EVDs, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgical care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Care for neurosurgery, vascular, thoracic, orthopedic, and liver transplant patients in SICU.
• Manage Level I Trauma population (MVAs, falls, gunshot wounds).
• Maintain 1:2 patient ratio.
• Night shift schedule: 19:00–07:00, 3x12-hour shifts.
• Floating to other units when SICU census is low.
• Every 3rd weekend work requirement.
• Use EPIC charting system.
• Provide critical care nursing for multisystem organ dysfunction and postoperative complications.
• Monitor for infection in immunosuppressed patients.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Surgical ICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring PA or compact RN licensure and Level I Trauma experience.

Requirements

• Active PA or Compact RN license required in hand
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; TNCC preferred
• Minimum 2 years of SICU experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy, central/arterial line management, blood product administration, and CRRT/CVVHD
• Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and respiratory failure care
• Experience managing EVDs, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgical/craniotomy patients preferred
• Experience with cardiac drips, vasoactive medications, and dysrhythmia management
• Valid state license or certification required at time of consideration
• Two valid professional references and certification copies required

Responsibilities

• Surgical Intensive Care Unit setting caring for neurosurgery, vascular, thoracic, orthopedic, and liver transplant patients
• Level I Trauma population including MVA, falls, and gunshot wound cases
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
• Floating required to other units when SICU census is low
• Every 3rd weekend work requirement
• Uses EPIC charting system
• Provide critical care nursing to complex surgical and trauma patients, including liver transplant and neurosurgical cases
• Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction and post-operative complications
• Monitor for abdominal compartment syndrome and recognize infection in immunosuppressed patients
• Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius at a differentiated rate
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• RTO must be finalized prior to consideration; no additional time off accepted afterward
• PA fingerprint clearance required, which may involve travel exceeding 100 miles
• Labs must be completed within 48 hours of signing
• Pass/fail clinical exam required for clearance with a maximum of three attempts
