Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licenses to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas.
  • Physical and emotional health adequate for attendance requirements and performance, including assessment of patient conditions, lifting/transferring patients, appropriate use of technical equipment, and rapid recognition and response to emergency situations.
  • Ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable. Conditions and environment are unpredictable and change frequently.
  • Must maintain CPR certification unless an exception is identified.
  • Appearance projects a professional image that engenders the confidence of others.
  • Provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from 0 to 18 years, including knowledge of principles of growth and development, assessment, and interpretation of data relative to age‑specific needs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide competent care for families based on practice patterns that reflect new levels of awareness of suffering, patient/family psychosocial needs, and complexity of clinical judgement.
  • Assess and collect data comprehensively to identify underlying family needs and implement an individualized plan of care.
  • Demonstrate competence in the delivery of nursing care.
  • Evaluate and revise plan of care based on evolving needs.
  • Utilize problem‑solving approaches to compare situations and identify solutions.
  • Provide comprehensive, individualized teaching based on identified learning needs of families.
  • Recognize the impact of personal involvement in the therapeutic relationship.
  • Communicate effectively and accurately, and respond to verbal and nonverbal communication.
  • Identify problems and report them to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in the development of professional and educational activities for staff nurses and other health care workers.
  • Support or maintain membership in a professional organization and share pertinent information gained from professional seminars, conferences, books, or journals.
  • Seek evaluation of self from peers and clinically advanced professionals to improve professional practice.
  • Incorporate unit‑based goals into the nursing process.
  • Member of a unit‑based committee/project/task force.
  • Utilize standards to develop plans of care for primary patients.
  • Act as a preceptor for novice/beginners.
  • Apply nursing research to clinical practice, read and evaluate current nursing research, and modify practice based on findings.
