General Summary

Registered Respiratory Therapist responsible for performing various therapeutic procedures, including advanced practice procedures such as operating balloon pumps, working in NICU, and performing Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT). Participates in staff and student training programs for Trinity Health, a teaching institution representing the Respiratory Care department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and guiding behaviors of Trinity Health.
  2. Provides professional leadership in patient care delivery.
  3. Uses "AIDET" principles (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) when interacting with patients.
  4. Uses "Managing Up" communication to positively position information and personnel.
  5. Ensures a consistent patient experience using "Key Words at Key Times" to enhance understanding and relationships.
  6. Serves as a consultant, resource, and role model in respiratory care.
  7. Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
  8. Approaches conflicts constructively, identifying problems and participating in solutions.
  9. Maintains safe respiratory therapy practices and reports safety issues.
  10. Performs duties per AARC guidelines and maintains competencies.
  11. Participates in emergency situations, patient rounds, and ensures treatments follow physician orders.
  12. Ensures equipment safety and contacts repair as needed.
  13. Recommends therapy adjustments based on clinical assessments.
  14. Demonstrates knowledge of oxygen and medical air shutdown procedures.
  15. Reviews relevant policies and prioritizes conflicting requests.
  16. Provides high-quality, culturally sensitive patient care.
  17. Participates in educational programs and training.
  18. Provides instruction and feedback during clinical training.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Completes annual Health Stream training.
  • Maintains professional growth activities and logs.
Education, Experience, and Licensure

Graduate of a two-year advanced practitioner-eligible Respiratory Therapist program. Must maintain current RRT credential and valid state license if required.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Effective interpersonal communication with patients and staff.
  • Analytical skills to assess patient needs.
  • Attention to detail, ability to walk and stand for extended periods, and lift up to 20 pounds.
Reporting Relationships

Supervised by Charge Therapists; reports to the Manager and Director of Respiratory Department.
