Unit Overview & Submission Requirements

Required For Submission

• Driver's License: Valid driver's license must be submitted with the application. Submissions without this will not be considered.
• Experience: Must have prior experience with EPIC.
• Licensure: Active Illinois RN license in hand is required at the time of submission.
• Travel Experience: Preferred but not required. First-time travelers are welcome.
  
  

Unit Details

Common Diagnoses

• Post-operative Day 3 Cardiac (including open-heart)
• Craniotomies
• Cardiac catheterizations (radial and femoral)
• Watchman procedures
• Zephyr valves (COPD)
• Pacemakers
• Tracheostomy care
• Continuous CPAP/BiPAP
• Chest tubes
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) Note: No ventilator patients.
  
  

Required RN Experience

• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience
• ICU experience is a plus
• Positive attitude and adaptability
  
  

Titration Requirements

• RNs must titrate drips Common titratable medications include:
• Cardizem
• Amiodarone
• Nitro (for blood pressure only)
• Insulin
• Heparin
• Dopamine/Dobutamine (renal dosing protocols)
  
  

Staffing Structure

• Charge Nurse:
• Day shifts: Team Lead present, does not take patients
• Nights/Weekends/Holidays: Charge RN takes a patient assignment
• Nurse Aides: Present with a ratio of 1:10; responsible for blood sugars, vital signs, and ADLs
• Telemetry Monitoring: RNs are responsible for reading telemetry. Centralized tele tech support available.
  

Respiratory Therapy Equipment

• CPAP
• BiPAP
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  
  

Scheduling & Shifts

• Typical shift: 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Scheduling is managed by the unit manager
• Block scheduling is considered when possible
  
  

Weekend & Holiday Requirements

• Every other weekend
• Every other holiday
  
  

On-Call/Standby

• No call or standby requirement
  
  

Floating Expectations

• May float to ICU (PCU-level patients only)
• May float to Med-Surg and take a full patient assignment
  
  

Dress Code

• Caribbean Blue scrubs
  
  

Orientation

• One 12-hour shift of unit/department-specific orientation provided
