Qualifications

  • Cardiology experience in inpatient or outpatient setting.

Responsibilities

Job description

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)
  • The Cardiac Sonographer is a registered cardiac ultrasound sonographer with demonstrated clinical expertise.
  • Responsible and accountable for the delivery of all cardiology service modalities according to the Cardiovascular Medicine clinic.
  • Works collaboratively with healthcare providers to ensure high-quality, cost-effective care.
  • Acts as a clinical resource, monitoring standards of practice, patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and adherence to departmental policies.
  • Provides direct patient care including ECG, echocardiograms, stress echoes, ECG stress test, monitoring, vascular studies.
  • Documents data in electronic records such as CPACS and Cerner.
  • Instructs and assists patients in preparation for testing and procedures.
  • Monitors patients during testing and notifies physicians if needed.
  • Recognizes dysrhythmias and echo pathologies.
  • Evaluates each study to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Prepares reports for physicians.
  • Applies and discontinues Holter monitors and uploads data.
  • Maintains and inspects equipment according to guidelines.
  • Reports equipment failure as per policy.
  • Utilizes electronic health records for messaging and data input.
  • Maintains current knowledge and skills related to ultrasound testing and procedures.
  • Develops health education materials for ultrasound, stress tests, and echoes.
  • Coordinates scheduling of diagnostic studies.
  • Communicates with treating physicians regarding patient health information.
  • Follows infection control guidelines and standards.
  • Utilizes informed consent as needed.
  • Integrates evidence-based practice strategies to guide decisions and develop policies.
  • Keeps current in medical diagnostic sonography through continuing education.
  • Ensures authorization is obtained prior to procedures.
  • Participates in policy development and revision specific to ultrasound.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other departments for continuity of care.
  • Presents a professional demeanor in appearance and attitude.

Job Requirements

  • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required.
  • Cardiology experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • Current AHA or equivalent BLS certification required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in ultrasound and cardiology.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups : Young Adult, Adult and Geriatric.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Knowledge of office equipment and basic computer skills required (fax, multi-line phone, copier / scanner).
  • Knowledge of Cerner desirable.
  • Knowledge of an electronic health record required.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and professional standards in areas of responsibility.
