Required Qualifications
- Valid Physical Therapy license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in physical therapy
- Experience in physical therapy (new graduates welcome)
- Other certifications or licenses may be required
Summary
The Physical Therapist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with physical impairments to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life. Working in hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers, the therapist creates personalized, evidence‑based treatment plans using exercise and manual therapy to promote recovery and independence.
Essential Work Functions
- Evaluate patients’ physical conditions using standardized tests, clinical examinations, and patient history to identify functional limitations and treatment needs.
- Develop personalized rehabilitation programs based on assessment findings and patient goals.
- Implement physical therapy treatment plans using various techniques to improve patient mobility and reduce pain.
- Operate and maintain specialized physical therapy equipment and modalities safely and effectively.
- Assess patient progress, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and document evaluations, interventions, and outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, body mechanics, injury prevention, and self‑management.
- Maintain a safe treatment environment, adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
- Engage in quality assurance initiatives and professional development activities.
- Collaborate in discharge planning for smooth transitions to community or home settings.
- Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
Required Essential Skills
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and use PC skills.
- Physical abilities: remain stationary, move about, move equipment (50‑100lbs), push, pull, and bend.
- Interpersonal skills: work effectively with diverse personnel and maintain professionalism.
- Technical/motor skills: grasp, perform fine manipulation, assist with procedures and equipment usage.
- Mental requirements: cope with frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, perform with minimal supervision, handle irregular schedules, maintain concentration on detail.
- Sensory: possess visual acuity and effective communication abilities.
