Job description

  • Evaluates patients referred to physical therapy by completing initial evaluations within time standards per department protocol.
  • Applies diagnostic and prognostic testing for musculoskeletal, neurological, and neuromuscular conditions.
  • Performs evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to rehabilitation needs.
  • Establishes treatment plans with measurable goals in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare team.
  • Selects and implements therapy activities to meet patient and therapy goals.
  • Recognizes patient limitations and utilizes available resources.
  • Teaches patients skills and techniques required for physical therapy participation.
  • Consults with rehabilitation team to select appropriate activities based on patient needs.
  • Develops and modifies treatment plans based on patient progress and makes disposition recommendations.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians respecting confidentiality.
  • Documents patient care activities including evaluations, progress notes, and treatment records per standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares patient schedules, billing charges, and reports through timely documentation.
  • Uses correct grammar, approved abbreviations, and medical terminology in documentation.
  • Documents ongoing status, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes to capture billing charges.
  • Participates in professional development and shares expertise to enhance quality of services and staff development.
  • Assists in training physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students and hospital personnel.
  • Acts as a resource for new staff by sharing information and providing education.
  • Adheres to professional code of ethics (APTA) and accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates effective time management and prioritizes workload to meet productivity requirements.
  • Adapts to changing technologies, policies, regulations, census, and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.
  • Demonstrates flexibility by floating to other areas or sites and working flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed.

  • Prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.

Schedule Information

  • Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evening hours as necessary to meet patient and department needs.
  • Floating may be required to any CommonSpirit location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment location or CommonSpirit-identified “float zone”.
  • Float assignments may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements in accordance with CommonSpirit policy.
