Shift / Schedule: 3x12 7p-7a on call 1 weekend / 6 weeks (On call is $10/hr)
Job Responsibilities:
- The Respiratory Therapist II administers competent care of patients through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, respiratory care procedures, and treatments designed to assess, prevent, stabilize, or remedy patients' respiratory dysfunction.
- Administers standard Respiratory Care including aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, and arterial punctures. Provides airway management including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, tube changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations. May perform Pulmonary Function Testing as needed.
- When working with Carolina Air Care, may transport pediatric and neonatal patients from referral hospitals per UNC Air Care Protocol.
- May perform respiratory care and advanced procedures per UNC Air Care Protocol, including UAC, UVC, IV insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, blood glucose monitoring, and others as deemed necessary.
- Manage extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support when working with ECMO.
Required Skills & Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Ability to analyze and interpret clinical information and procedures.
- Effective documentation skills.
- Strong communication skills with patients, physicians, families, and staff.
- Mathematical skills: applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Reasoning ability: defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical situations.
Required Education:
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- Current RRT certification by NBRC.
- Must have at least one of the following depending on practice area: ACLS, NRP, PALS, CPFT, or an advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab. All certifications must be maintained as required.
