The Pediatric CVICU Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients with congenital and acquired heart conditions in a high-acuity cardiovascular intensive care setting. The CVICU RN works as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based care and ensure optimal patient outcomes for infants, children, and adolescents recovering from cardiac surgeries, transplants, and other critical interventions.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct, evidence-based nursing care to pediatric cardiac patients, including those post-operative from open-heart surgery, heart transplants, and other high-risk procedures.
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamic parameters, EKGs, ventilators, and other critical care equipment.
• Administer medications, including vasoactive drips, sedation, and pain management, following hospital protocols and physician orders.
• Perform assessments and rapidly respond to changes in patient condition using advanced critical care skills.
• Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Educate and support families regarding patient condition, care plans, and discharge procedures.
• Maintain detailed and accurate medical records in compliance with hospital standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in unit-based training, simulations, and ongoing education related to pediatric cardiac and critical care.
