About the Role
A Stepdown Registered Nurse provides care to patients who are transitioning from intensive care to medical‑surgical or general inpatient units. Responsibilities include monitoring telemetry, administering medication, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring patient safety.
Required Qualifications
- One year of recent experience as a Stepdown RN
- Current valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
- Current ACLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) Certification
- NIHSS Certification
- Other certifications and licenses may be required
Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments with a focus on cardiac care
- Assist physician during cardiac-related procedures and examinations
- Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs of telemetry patients
- Document nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients
- Initiate patient education plans focusing on cardiac health, risk factors, and lifestyle modifications
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
- Respond to life‑saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols
- Other duties may be assigned
Essential Skills
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Proficiency with PC skills
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
- Remain in a stationary position, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
- Work effectively with a variety of personnel, maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism
- Coping with frequent public contact and meeting deadlines under pressure
- Handle irregular activity schedules while maintaining continuous concentration on detail
- Possess visual acuity and effective communication
