Healthforce is seeking a Pathology Assistant for a travel assignment in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The position spans 13 weeks with guaranteed 40 hours per week and a start date of 11/02/2026.

The role focuses on surgical specimen preparation, gross description, and support of pathology services within an acute care department. NAACLS-accredited PA program completion and ASCP certification are required, with preferred grossing experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Program.
• ASCP certification or exam-ready with certification prior to start date.
• Preferred: prior grossing experience.
• Ability to perform duties under supervision of a pathologist in an on-site hospital pathology setting.
• Eligibility to work in North Dakota and to participate in a travel assignment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accuracy of patient identification on all specimens processed for microscopic examination.
• Perform surgical specimen dissection and provide quality material for routine histology studies; obtain pathologist input for gross specimen analysis when appropriate.
• Conduct frozen sections and maintain cryostats; dictate complete and accurate gross descriptions.
• Communicate findings and results in a timely, professional manner with pathologists and providers.
• Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of the gross cutting area and morgue; dispose of tissues and reagents per procedures.
• Perform quality control and routine preventive maintenance; keep gross bench procedures manual current with CAP compliance review.
