Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Orthodontic Assistant with a Coronal Polishing Certificate to join our team. This role involves performing orthodontic screenings, polishing teeth, and preparing patients for orthodontic treatment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to patient care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions

To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to help enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Prepare patient, sterilize or disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, or assist dentist/hygienist during dental procedures.
  2. Record treatment information in patient records.
  3. Expose dental diagnostic x-rays and is responsible for x-ray sensor care and guidelines.
  4. Coronal polish all surfaces of the teeth efficiently to assist the Hygienist during the patient’s preventative and/or periodontal visit.
  5. Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
  6. Assist Hygienist in management of medical or dental emergencies.
  7. Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by Hygienist.
  8. Make post-operative calls to patients.
  9. Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  10. Apply protective coating of fluoride to teeth.
  11. Placement of sealants as prescribed by the Dentist.
  12. Comply with: Dental Depot policies and procedures; OSHA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; and HIPAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  13. This position may complete other Administrative and Maintenance tasks as assigned by Management.
  14. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  15. Must be able to take diagnosable series 8 photographs, panoramic x-rays, cephalometric x-rays, and impressions.
  16. Fabricate temporary restorations or custom impressions from preliminary impressions.
  17. Pour, trim, and polish study casts, prepare whitening trays and essix retainers.

Skills & Abilities

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).

Required Experience: Completion of Dental Assisting Program or minimum one year experience as a Dental Assistant.

Certifications & Licenses: Oklahoma Dental Assisting Permit Required. Radiation Safety and Protection Permit Required within 90 days of employment with Dental Depot. Coronal Polishing and Topical Fluoride Permit Required within 90 days of eligibility.

Computer Skills: Efficiently operates assigned computer software and other equipment, including Eaglesoft, Dolphin, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Other Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license, proof of valid vehicle insurance, and must have annual Motor Vehicle Record Check, as a condition of employment if employee operates any Company-owned vehicles or drives their own personal vehicle for Company business purposes. Understands HIPAA to ensure patient privacy. Clear understanding of sterilization system and infection control. Always use protective personal equipment according to State of Oklahoma and Federal guidelines. Must have knowledge of CDT Codes and pass the bi-annual Dental Depot CDT codes test.
