Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN with general surgery experience for a 13-week travel assignment requiring on-call availability and prior travel experience.

Active MD or Compact RN license and BLS are required, with at least two years of general surgery OR experience. Cerner charting experience and two supervisory references are necessary. Local candidates within 60 miles may receive a lower rate.

Qualifications

• Active RN license MD state license or Compact license required.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of General Surgery OR experience required.
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience within the last 7 years required.
• Community hospital experience required; teaching hospital experience preferred.
• Prior travel assignment experience required.
• Cerner charting system experience required.
• Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience in the previous 3 years.
• Driver's license required matching candidate's address for local status verification.
• Flu vaccine required.

Responsibilities

• Operating Room unit in a hospital setting.
• Day shift schedules (5x8 hours): 6:45 AM-3:15 PM or 10:45 AM-7:15 PM, with some 4x10 hour flex options including 12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM-7:15 PM.
• On-call responsibilities required, up to five 12-hour call shifts per six-week period, primarily weekends (Saturday 7:00 PM through Monday 7:00 AM) with occasional Tuesday night call.
• Uses Cerner charting system.
• Performs a wide range of surgical specialties including vascular, gynecology, plastics, podiatry, neurology, orthopedic, general surgery, urology, and bariatric procedures.
• Experience with robotic surgical systems such as Da Vinci Xi and Mako preferred.
• Utilizes equipment such as electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, Hana Table, and Steris systems.
• Provide perioperative nursing care across a broad range of surgical specialties including vascular, gynecologic, plastic, orthopedic, neurologic, urologic, and general surgery procedures.
• Scrubs are provided.
• Weekly orientation held on Mondays, with ASAP start preferred.
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract.
• Local candidates within 60 miles accepted at a lower pay rate.
• Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a travamp.
• First‑time travelers will not be considered; at least one prior travel assignment is required.
