Required Qualifications:

Summary:

A Registered Nurse (RN) in a long-term care (LTC) facility provides skilled nursing care to residents, ensuring their health, comfort, and well-being. RNs oversee patient care plans, administer treatments, monitor for changes in condition, and collaborate with healthcare teams to provide high-quality, resident-centered care. They also supervise nursing staff, educate residents and families, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.

Essential Work Functions:

  • Assess patient or resident health, monitor for changes, and take appropriate action to ensure their well-being
  • Develop, update, and implement personalized care plans in collaboration with residents, families, and the patient care team
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
  • Observe residents for medication reactions or changes in condition and report concerns to healthcare providers
  • Provide treatments including wound care, IV therapy, catheter management, and other procedures within scope of practice
  • Supervise and support LPNs and CNAs, delegating appropriately and ensuring quality care
  • Educate residents and families on medications, treatments, and managing chronic conditions
  • Document care provided, resident progress, and health changes in a timely manner
  • Respond quickly to emergencies, delivering critical care and coordinating with medical teams
  • Work closely with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care
  • Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice
  • Adhere to safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards

Required Essential Skills:

  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical abilities: ability to remain stationary, move equipment (50-100 lbs), push, pull, bend

  • Technical/motor skills: ability to grasp, manipulate, push/pull, move about during procedures
  • Mental requirements: cope with public contact, meet deadlines, work under supervision, irregular schedules, and focus on detail
