Job summary

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN CVPICU for a travel nursing job in Tacoma, Washington. You will work nights on a 12-hour shift, caring for predominantly PCICU patients with opportunities in cardiovascular cases.

Requirements include 1 year CVPICU experience, BLS and PALS, and aptitude for fast-paced, critical care. ECMO experience preferred but not required. This travel engagement offers weekly pay and guaranteed hours.

Qualifications

• 1 year CVPICU experience required, not just floating.
• BLS and PALS certifications required.
• Fresh heart experience with ECMO/PD experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Care for predominantly PCICU patients with potential CVICU needs.
• Monitor post-operative and critical cardiac patients, including ventilator management.
• Follow strict infection control and central line care; manage tubes and drains.
• Provide rapid assessment, critical thinking and time management in a busy unit.

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN CVPICU for a travel nursing job in Tacoma, Washington.

Unit: PCICU

*Must have fresh heart experience. ECMO experience is preferred*

Experience Required: 1 year of actual CVPICU experience, not just floating experience.

Certs Required: BLS, PALS

Skills Required: Experience with below cardiac patients, surgeries, and diagnoses, aseptic and sterile technique, basic dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, suctioning, G/GJ/J-tube management, NG tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCA pumps, drip management, foley insertion/management, central line dressing changes and care, central line blood draw, peripheral lab draws, discharging patients, soft skills: quick learner, critical thinker, good time management, engaged; ECMO & peritoneal dialysis experience preferred not required.

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

• mixed PICU/PCICU with neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, medical. This position will be predominantly PCICU patients, but could also care for general PICU patients; cardiovascular/thoracic – congenital heart defects (will stay from surgery until discharge).
• Stat category 1, 2, 3, occasionally 4, fresh open hearts, post-cath, medical cardiac (CHF, cardiomyopathy, myocarditis), post-cardiac arrest, some thoracic cases; could also care for these diagnoses:
• respiratory – hi-flow, CPAP, BiPAP, trachs, RSV, asthma, COVID;
• Traumas – falls, MVAs, etc.
• surgical – appendectomies, g-tubes, ENT, fresh trachs, bowel obstructions, broken bones, VP shunts, neuro
• patients receiving chemo
• tier 3 during COVID surge – provide care up to age 30 (extremely rare)
• ECMO – ECMO specialist will handle the ECMO machine
• CRRT – traveler can care for this if previous CRRT and Prismax experience (very low volume of CRRT, so will likely go to core staff)
• any major facial wound, eye injury, or penetrating trauma will go to Level I Trauma Center (Harborview); NO solid organ transplant, major burns, VADS, or stem cell transplants
