Job summary
Wellpath offers a mission-driven environment focused on underserved populations. The Travel Nurse Practitioner provides onsite medical care to inmates across correctional facilities, with regular travel and collaboration with physicians and mental health professionals.
Requirements include a master’s in nursing (NP), an unrestricted license in the state, DEA registration, and BLS/PALS where applicable. Prior correctional/detention facility experience is preferred; two years minimum.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing (NP) completed.
- Minimum two years of experience in correctional/detention facilities.
- Unrestricted current license/registration in state of practice; DEA registration; BLS/PALS where applicable.
Responsibilities
- Deliver medical care for acute and emergency conditions at various locations.
- Evaluate, document, and treat patients in compliance with protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians and assess psychiatric stability as needed.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and participate in quality and administrative programs.
- Travel to different sites to support clinical operations and staffing needs.

The Travel Nurse Practitioner provides onsite medical care to inmates across various correctional facilities, covering for vacancies as needed. They assess acute and emergency complaints, develop treatment plans, and document care using EMR systems. The NP collaborates with physicians and mental health professionals and may determine the need for emergency offsite transfers. Responsibilities include participation in peer reviews, administrative meetings, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The role requires regular travel and adaptability to different work environments.

- Completion of a master’s program in nursing (NPs)
- Previous correctional/detention facility experience
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience
- Unrestricted current license, certification, or registration in state of practice
- Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
- Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
