Required Qualifications:

  • One year of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Valid license in accordance with state regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • National certification through ASCP or equivalent (AMT, AAB, HEW)
  • Current BLS certification (AHA / ARC)
  • Additional certifications or licenses as required

Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician performs routine and moderately complex tests across multiple diagnostic areas, including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and toxicology. Responsibilities include analyzing body fluids and specimens, ensuring test accuracy, and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Essential Work Functions:

  • Perform diagnostic tests in chemistry, hematology, immunology, etc.
  • Prepare and process specimens accurately
  • Maintain quality control and follow regulatory guidelines (AABB, CAP, FDA, CLIA)
  • Support transfusion reaction investigations
  • Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
  • Communicate results clearly to healthcare professionals
  • Follow safety, infection control, and hospital procedures
  • Keep detailed records of tests and quality measures
  • Assist with inventory and reagent management
  • Perform other duties within scope of practice
