Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center facility in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a willingness to float across a multi‑facility region.

Details

• 32‑bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit at a 241‑bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC
• Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care cases
• RN‑to‑patient ratio is 1:5-6, with potential surge ratios of 1:7-8
• 12‑hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on‑call responsibilities
• Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs
• EMR: Epic
• Virtual nursing (VNO) system in use with 10 cameras – virtual RNs can serve as a second witness for certain medications, monitor high‑acuity patients, and assist with admissions and discharges

Qualifications

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non‑titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility – local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
• Orientation includes facility‑level (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Department support includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), a charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), and telemetry monitoring technicians – no HUC on unit
• Required scrub color: Navy

• Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible

Compensation

Pay package is based on 12‑hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.
