American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a Urology/Nephrology unit in Illinois. Active IL RN license and telemetry/renal case experience required.

The 25-bed unit operates on a day shift (3x12 hours) with a 1:6 patient ratio and requires floating to nearby units. Cerner EMR is used, and Magnet-status plus Level I trauma center designation describe the facility. Generous benefits and First-time traveler opportunities available.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of medical/surgical nursing experience required.
• Prior charge nurse experience required.
• Cerner charting system experience required.
• Experience with MS/Tele and Med/Surg settings required.
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills required, including telemetry remote monitoring and Rapid Response Team use.
• Genitourinary/Renal case experience required, including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care.
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required, including blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, and starting IVs.
• Heparin administration experience required.
• Respiratory care skills required, including chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and portable oxygen tank use.
• Isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac experience required.
• Level I trauma center and teaching hospital experience preferred.
• Kidney transplant and urology/nephrology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg unit specializing in Urology/Nephrology within an acute care hospital.
• 25-bed unit with an average daily census of 23 and a 1:6 patient ratio.
• Day shift schedule (3x12 hours, 0645-1915).
• Required to work every other weekend.
• No on-call requirements.
• Floating required to other Medical Surgical units or nearby affiliate facilities.
• Cerner EMR used for charting.
• Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds.
• Any solid color scrubs permitted.
• Parking permit provided at no cost, arranged during orientation.
• First-time travelers welcome if they demonstrate a solid med/surg nursing foundation.
• Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction.
• Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler.
• Floating required for all travelers, either within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities.
• RTO should ideally be no more than 5 days.
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays.
• Travel pairs not accepted.
