Job summary

R.J. Corman Railroad Group is seeking a Travel Mechanic - Railcar to travel to various locations for repairs and maintenance. The role requires welding and mechanical repair skills, forklift operation, and strict documentation of work and material usage.

The position emphasizes safety, timely completion of repair jobs, and maintaining clean, safe shops and vehicles while collaborating with all levels of personnel. Travel is extensive, up to 80% of the time, with coverage across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Mechanical experience preferred, with ability to perform welding, cutting and repairs.
• Strong communication and people skills; able to work with all levels of personnel.
• Demonstrated teamwork and ability to collaborate across shifts and locations.

Responsibilities

• Welding, cutting, and mechanical repairs on railcars.
• Operate forklift as required.
• Document work performed and track material usage.
• Ensure repair paperwork is complete and accurate.
• Complete repair jobs in a timely manner.
• Maintain clean and safe vehicles and shops.
• Assist with inspections and repairs as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

R.J. Corman Railroad Company has an immediate opening for a Travel Mechanic - Railcar to travel to various locations for work.

Responsibilities

• Welding, cutting, and mechanical type repairs


• Forklift operation


• Understanding of documenting work performed and recording material usage


• Ensure that paperwork for railcar repairs is complete and correct


• Ensure that repair jobs are completed in a timely manner


• Ensure that vehicles and shops are kept clean & safe


• Ensure that the employees are working in a safe manner


• Assist with inspection and repairs as needed


• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Specialized Or Technical Knowledge, Or Education And Experience

Mechanical experience preferred, must have good communication and people skills with demonstrated ability to develop teamwork and work with all levels of personnel in achieving our goals.

Physical Requirements

• Able to perform physical strenuous work


• Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch


• Requires constant standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and balancing in a safe manner


• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30 lbs


• Perform a rapid, horizontal hand torque action with a force of 100 lbs


• Travel Required 80% of time
