Job Description

The RN in Labor and Delivery (L&D) provides comprehensive care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum. Responsibilities include managing routine and high-risk pregnancies, monitoring fetal and maternal health, assisting with deliveries, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure safe, compassionate care for mothers and newborns.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Pre-Labor and Admission Assessment
    • Assess and monitor pregnant women's health, gather histories, vital signs, and perform physical assessments.
    • Perform NSTs, monitor fetal heart tones, and evaluate uterine activity.
    • Educate patients on labor, delivery processes, pain management, and expectations.
  2. Labor Support and Monitoring
    • Monitor labor progress, administer medications, provide emotional support, and assist with procedures like amniotomy.
  3. Assisting with Delivery
    • Assist during vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including newborn care and neonatal resuscitation.
  4. Postpartum Care
    • Monitor recovery, support breastfeeding, and educate on postpartum and newborn care.
  5. Documentation and Reporting
    • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient progress in EHR.
  6. Collaboration and Communication
    • Work with healthcare team, communicate with patients and families, and obtain informed consent.
  7. Infection Control and Safety
    • Follow infection control protocols and ensure equipment sterilization.
  8. Emergency and High-Risk Situations
    • Recognize complications, respond to emergencies, and manage high-risk pregnancies.
  9. Patient Education and Advocacy
    • Educate and support patients, advocate for their preferences and informed decisions.
