Description

The position is a 13‑week travel contract at a Level II Trauma facility. The ICU has 33 beds with an average daily census of 16 patients.

Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post‑stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress.

The adult nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 1:2‑3. RNs must titrate drips—including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation—read, interpret, and document telemetry strips (GE monitor brand used with teletech oversight), and chart via Epic EMR. Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to ventilator management. Work hours are 12‑hour day shifts (06:30‑18:30) with every other weekend required, floating to PCU (1:4) or sometimes Med/Surg (1:5), on‑call with a 30‑minute arrival, and covering at least 2 holidays during the contract.

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license—must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted.
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience.
• Epic EMR experience.
• Candidate must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license used to verify permanent address.
• Cannot be currently employed by any CommonSpirit‑affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health.
• Two professional references—one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer/supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire.
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration.

Additional Information

• Nurse aides support as needed; a Healthcare Support Tech is available 3 days per week (Mon‑Fri 08:00‑16:30).
• Unit‑specific orientation includes one shift and a pass/fail open‑book skills exam on Wednesdays during orientation (score ≥ 90%).
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination.
• Scrubs or dress code details not specified, but fingernail policy is strictly enforced.
• RTO must be submitted upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13‑week contract permitted; additional RTO not approved.
• Block scheduling not approved unless weekend‑only blocks; self‑scheduling applies to core staff with travelers added in.
