Job summary

Carvana in Texas is seeking a Driver Trainer and Coach to oversee onboarding of Vehicle Transporters, ensuring proficient adherence to Carvana policies, safe driving practices, and effective vehicle loading. The role combines classroom and hands‑on instruction to prepare new hires for performance and growth.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching, with CDL driving experience and strong communication skills, and willing to travel up to 50% to support operations across locations.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A license is required with a clean driving record.
• High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English.
• Smith Systems training preferred or willing to be certified.
• Must be 21+ years old.
• Minimum 2 years of CDL driving experience is preferred.
• Must maintain a DOT Medical card.

Responsibilities

• Provide a world class onboarding experience to new Vehicle Transporters at Carvana.
• Lead a 2-week training period on maneuvering, loading, and operating car trailers and other logistics equipment.
• Teach new hires how to safely load vehicles onto a 9 car hauler, avoiding vehicle damage.
• Conduct classroom training as well as hands-on sessions.
• Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to new hires.
• Use a skills matrix and evaluation checklists for assessments.
• Collaborate with Logistics Managers to ensure smooth transition to on-the-job training.
• Support with other projects as needed.
• Travel is required up to 50% of the time.

What We’re Looking For

As a Driver Trainer (and Coach), you will play a crucial role in navigating the daily complexities of auto transport. Your responsibilities will be dynamic, adapting to evolving challenges. A primary focus will be to ensure drivers are proficient in Carvana policies, safe driving practices, and efficient vehicle loading. When not conducting formal training sessions, you will be responsible for ongoing education and evaluations of our current drivers. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping others, highly motivated, enthusiastic, and possess the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Specifically, Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Responsible for providing a world class onboarding experience to newest Vehicle Transporters at Carvana
• Serve as the primary trainer, getting new hires up to speed over a 2-week training period on how to effectively maneuver, maintain, and operate car trailers and other logistics equipment
• Teach new hires how to safely load vehicles onto a 9 car hauler, keeping customer vehicles free of damage.
• Comfortable with classroom training as well as hands‑on training
• Ability to be coach, mentor, and provide feedback to new hires
• Draw upon a wide variety of techniques to ensure knowledge transfer and skill development.
• Use skills matrix and evaluation checklists/assessments or similar tools.
• Collaborate with multiple Logistics Managers to ensure a smooth transition from training to on‑the‑job
• Support with other projects as needed
• Travel is required 50% of the time, however business needs could dictate more travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The Qualifying Candidate Must Have

• High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable
• System and on the job training experience preferred
• CDL class A and clean driving record
• Smith Systems training and/or certification preferred or willing to be certified
• Bend, kneel, twist, squat, stand and climb as required to secure load
• 21+ years old
• Ability to speak, read and write English
• Proficient with word, spreadsheets, systems
• Have more than two years of CDL driving experience, vehicle hauling experience preferred.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
• Maintain a DOT Medical card
• Ability to develop individuals and teams for organizational success
