Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our dedicated surgical team. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional who has a strong background in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) procedures and is committed to providing high-quality surgical care.

Hospital Information

• Level II Trauma Center
• Level III NICU
• Level II Pediatric Trauma
• Magnet Status Designation (in progress)
• Primary Stroke and Chest Pain Center
• Teaching Hospital
• 417 Beds

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist in various Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgeries, including CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, thoracic cases (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, fem-pop bypass, open vascular cases, AAA, and carotids.
• Support surgical staff by ensuring the OR is prepared and sterile.
• Engage in a 2 tech model, collaborating with another CST to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.
• Float to Main OR as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of CVOR experience, with Level I or II trauma experience.
• Graduate from an accredited school.
• Current certifications: BLS required; CST certification preferred.

Education

Associate Degree in a Healthcare related field or CST certification is required.

Key Skills

• Strong background in CVOR across all specialties.
• Experience with CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, thoracic cases, robotic procedures, generator exchanges, lead extractions, and cardiac organ procurement/harvesting.

Support on the Unit

The surgical unit includes:

• RN/First Assist/Surgical Technologist
• Nurse Clinician
• Service Line Lead(s)
• Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
• Scheduler
• Preference Card Analyst
• Anesthesia team

Charting System/Equipment

• EPIC
• Omnicell
• Alaris

Working Conditions

Shifts may vary between 8 or 10 hours. Weekend rotations include on-call schedules, and potential holiday work may be required. Approval for time off will be managed by the department manager.

Orientation

The orientation for new CSTs will consist of five (5) eight-hour days to ensure a thorough understanding of the facility and surgical protocols.
