National Geographic is seeking a Travel Editor who conceives, assigns, and edits travel content across NatGeo’s editorial platforms. The editor should have strong travel-writing experience and a passion for service journalism, with a record of coordinating freelance contributors across print and digital.

Qualifications

• 3+ years conceiving, assigning, and editing editorial content for publication.
• Experience with digital editing, SEO, tagging, and headline writing.
• Experience creating travel content with actionable information for travelers.
• Ability to present ideas clearly and work across a matrixed environment.
• Strong knowledge of travel industry and experience creating travel content.

Responsibilities

• Conceive and pitch travel story ideas for publication on NatGeo.com and in the magazine.
• Commission, produce, edit, and prepare stories with freelance contributors.
• Shape destination guide coverage, including formats and media types, including video.
• Plan refreshes of destination guides using performance data to improve utility.
• Develop ideas for audience development and engagement, including video formats.
• Collaborate on larger initiatives like Best of the World and ongoing series.
• Develop ideas for travel storytelling across third-party platforms and social.
• Expand the roster of freelance contributors and editors for travel content.
• Work with newsletter and social editors on promotion and amplification.
• Partner with sales and marketing on editorial ideas in response to RFPs.
