Job summary

National Geographic in Washington, DC is seeking a Features Editor who will lead editorial projects across digital and print platforms. The ideal editor works across profiles, packages, graphics, and podcasts with a flair for dynamic storytelling and strong industry connections.

You will report to the Senior Manager, Features, developing new voices and managing contracts, workflows, and schedules while upholding accuracy and clarity in every piece.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of editing experience with increasing editorial responsibility.
• Outstanding editorial judgement, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
• Excellent writing and verbal communications; strong knowledge of National Geographic brand and mission.
• Ability to take responsibility for concept and content and manage creative relationships.
• Keen understanding of storytelling approaches and ability to manage multiple projects to deadline.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated and resourceful with the ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.
• Bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Manage the development, commissioning and editing of stories and packages.
• Develop new franchises and new ways of covering topics central to National Geographic’s mission.
• Manage workflows to ensure timely delivery and adherence to word counts, factual accuracy, and other specs.
• Develop and maintain relationships with writers and industry professionals with emphasis on diverse voices.
• Report to Senior Manager, Features on project development and challenges, assist in feature management including contracts, scheduling, production stages, and administrative tasks.
