American Traveler is seeking a Travel RN for a Cardiac Stepdown/PCU assignment in Wilmington, North Carolina. The role requires 36 hours per week on a 12-hour night schedule, with a start date in early January 2026 and contracts ranging from 13 to 26 weeks.

Candidate must hold an active NC or compact RN license, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, and at least 2 years in a cardiac unit. Healthcare credentials and ability for night shifts are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Active NC or compact RN license required.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required.
• Minimum of 2 years of cardiac floor experience required.
• Traveler experience required unless possessing more than 24 months of cardiac experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the PCU/stepdown unit of a hospital setting.
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours: 18:45–07:15); 36 hours per week required.
• Assignments range from 13 to 26 weeks.
• Patient population includes cardiac and vascular diagnoses such as A-fib, CHF, ACS, CAD, endocarditis, and various post-surgical cases.
• Patient ratios are 1:4 for surgical stepdown and 1:5-6 for lower acuity.
• Work 4 weekend shifts within every 4-week period with flexible scheduling.
• Floating follows unit rotation; not first to float.
• Special procedures include CABG, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO, thoracic surgeries, and post-cardiac cath care.
• Uses Pyxis for medication management and Epic for charting and documentation.
• PCU nurses will provide care for complex cardiac and vascular patients, including post-surgical and post-procedure cases.
• May be assigned to Storm Team or Hurricane Team during catastrophes or disasters.
• Consolidation to centralized staffing office may occur; pre-assignments to other units possible.
• 24 hours of unit orientation provided.
• RTO after booking not permitted; call-offs may result in contract cancellation.
• First time travelers accepted if they possess more than 24 months of cardiac experience.
• Locals accepted at the same rate.

Requirements
