This position will collaborate with the Trauma Program Director and trauma registrars to ensure validation processes for the Trauma Registry, supporting operations, quality initiatives, and research efforts. The registry manager will oversee activities such as data gathering, abstraction, entry, coding, analysis, validation, maintenance, reporting, and clerical duties like filing and organizing. The manager will liaise with WVU Medicine trauma centers and outside agencies, mentor staff, and ensure accurate submissions to WVOEMS, NTDB, and TQIP for state and national benchmarking and verification.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Health Information Management Program.
  • Completion of AAAM Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Coder Training.
  • At least 5 years of trauma-related coding experience in an acute care setting, including AIS/ISS and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CSTR, or CAISS, or comparable trauma registry experience.
  • Understanding of Trauma Quality Improvement processes, patient safety programs, and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with mentoring, team leadership, performance metrics, and EMR systems like EPIC.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include overseeing the trauma registry process, data abstraction, collaboration with stakeholders, report generation, maintaining compliance with standards, mentoring staff, and representing WVU Medicine at various meetings and conferences. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Ability to lift or push 11-20 pounds.
  • Sitting at a desk/computer for extended periods.
Working Environment
  • Remote work environment.

  • Proficiency with computers, MS Office, report writing, and database management.

Additional details include scheduled weekly hours (40), exempt status, and employment with WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals.
