What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Identify trauma patients meeting registry inclusion criteria and abstract clinical data from medical records
- Code diagnoses, procedures, and injuries using ICD-10 and AIS coding, entering data into the Trauma Registry
- Perform data analysis and validation to ensure data quality and registry integrity
- Prepare reports for trauma administration and support the Trauma Center Designation/Verification process
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in trauma conferences and committees
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in medical record coding or relevant clinical experience
- Required certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CSTR preferred or eligible; AAAM course certification within 1 year
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 coding, AIS coding, and medical terminology
- Proficient in computer applications, including spreadsheets, word processing, and databases
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Coding certification such as CCS-P, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA
- Experience working with Trauma Registry software and data submissions
- Familiarity with performance improvement processes in a healthcare setting
