Job summary

Youth Crisis Center in Jacksonville, FL is seeking a Youth Care Specialist for 2nd shift to provide direct supervision, structure, and mentoring to youth ages 10–17 in a secure residential setting. You will help with academics, groups, life skills, and daily routines while applying trauma-informed care and behavioral interventions to promote safety and growth.

Must be 21+ with a HS diploma; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma and one (1) year of experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human service field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain visual supervision and a safe, structured environment at all times.
  • Support youth participation in academics, therapeutic groups, recreation, and life-skills activities.
  • Implement the behavioral management system fairly, consistently, and in accordance with program expectations.
  • Conduct room checks, facility rounds, and safety inspections per policy to ensure client and facility security.
  • Monitor and distribute/assist with administering client medications when the nurse is unavailable, following all policy and documentation standards.
  • Assist with client intakes, discharges, and family visitations; ensure accurate admission, discharge, and behavioral documentation.
  • Document all observations, progress, and incidents promptly and accurately in required systems (e.g., logs, NetMIS, behavioral management reports).
  • Ensure intakes, discharges, behavioral management documentation, and data collection meet Quality Assurance standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to youth regarding personal hygiene, social skills, and daily living routines; ensure clients are appropriately dressed, fed, and ready for school or other scheduled activities.
  • Support implementation of individualized treatment plans and encourage positive peer and staff interactions.
  • Assist in meal preparation and service when food service staff are unavailable.
  • Transport youth as authorized for court hearings, medical appointments, or other approved activities.
  • Participate actively in treatment team meetings, staff meetings, and required trainings.
  • Report facility and safety concerns promptly to the Supervisor or Program Manager.
