Job summary

The Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains seeks a Behavior Support Specialist to support youth ages 5–18 in Vermillion, SD. You will focus on behavioral, social, and emotional growth, applying trauma-informed practices and developing individualized Success Plans for coping and self-regulation.

You will collaborate with families, schools, and staff to create safe, inclusive programs, provide on-the-floor support, and mentor youth while maintaining thorough documentation and ongoing staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or related field required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health and/or working with youth in group settings.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development and trauma-informed practices.
• Experience in family engagement, mentoring, and group facilitation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to stay calm and professional in high-energy, stressful situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide immediate redirection and de-escalation during behavioral incidents to ensure safety.
• Build supportive relationships with youth and families that encourage resilience and growth.
• Collaborate with staff, families, and schools to implement individualized Success and Medical Plans.
• Track progress and communicate outcomes to families and staff.
• Ensure staff implement strategies from Success Plans consistently.
• Lead mentoring, small groups, and family meetings to strengthen coping skills.
