Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village is seeking a Substance Use Counselor to join a clinical team handling a caseload of individuals with substance use disorders. You will conduct assessments, provide individual and group counseling, coordinate services, and maintain documentation in support of the organization’s mission.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed, patient-centered care, collaboration with treatment teams, and facilitating access to appropriate care levels.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• OASAS CASAC-T or CASAC Certification required.
• 1–2 years of related experience in SUD, preferably in an OTP.
• Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and related treatment approaches.
• Knowledge of co-occurring disorders.
• Knowledge of laws regarding personnel and client information.

Responsibilities

• Develops a treatment plan in collaboration with the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor.
• Uses a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to support patients in treatment and recovery.
• Provides clinical consultation to referral resources, mentors, family members, and others.
• Engages patients in decision-making and explains benefits of assessment and level of care.
• Collects and reviews referral information and coordinates scheduling of interviews.
• Makes referrals to appropriate programs to meet patient needs.
• Assists patients with scheduling admission or first appointment.
