Job summary

Catholic Charities Eastern Washington seeks a Safety Coordinator to oversee safety, emergency response, and day-to-day support for Catalyst staff and participants at our Spokane location. This role collaborates with care teams to connect people with shelter and health resources, and to de-escalate issues using protocol-driven, compassionate approaches.

The position emphasizes trauma-informed engagement, safety monitoring, and coordination with multiple departments to ensure secure and welcoming

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in social services or related field required.
• Three years’ experience in de-escalation training, Motivational Interviewing, Safe Crisis Management or equivalent.
• Ability to compassionately interact with mentally ill, substance abusers and homeless individuals.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with departments to address safety concerns around the facility and vicinity.
• Provide person-centered services and create a welcoming environment for participants and visitors.
• Maintain safety and security protocols, monitor access areas.
• Provide referrals to shelter and community-based services using trauma-informed practices.
• Develop rapport to encourage engagement with available programs and resources.
• Support access to community-based resources via care coordinators and frontline staff.
• De-escalate disruptive situations and coordinate with police or authorities as needed.
• Respond to emergencies and activate medical emergency systems when required.
• Operate front desk duties, manage mail, donations, and communications as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information per HIPAA.
