Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia is seeking a Part-Time English Learner (EL) Teacher for the Adult Detention Center to provide individualized and small-group instruction to English Learners who are also identified for special education services.

The role emphasizes standards-aligned, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed teaching within a secure facility, with collaboration across staff and detention center teams to ensure ongoing academic and language development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Experience with English Learners and students with disabilities.
• Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with an endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL)

Responsibilities

• Establishes a safe, supportive learning environment aligned to standards.
• Designs authentic, engaging lessons using SOLs, LCPS curriculum, and varied materials.
• Creates trauma-informed, respectful learning spaces within the secure facility.
• Differentiates instruction based on language proficiency and IEP goals.
• Assesses progress with formal and informal measures; documents growth in language and academics.
• Collaborates with detention center staff, special education teams, and LCPS to coordinate services.
• Implements behavior-support strategies aligned with detention center expectations.
• Maintains records per LCPS policies (assessment, grading, confidentiality, SPED).
• Participates in professional learning and team planning to strengthen instructional practices.
• May support other alternative locations as needed.
