Job summary

Volunteers of America Colorado is seeking an Addictions Specialist / Chemical Dependency Counselor at the Lakewood Navigation Center. The role focuses on assessment, counseling, case management, and referrals for individuals with substance use disorders, using trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approaches.

The position requires CAC licensure in Colorado, 2+ years of case management experience, and the ability to coordinate care across outpatient, MAT, detox, and housing resources.

Qualifications

• Active and fully licensed CAC or Colorado credential; LAC preferred.
• Minimum two years of case management experience in behavioral health or related settings.
• Strong clinical understanding of substance use disorders, treatment modalities, stages of change, harm-reduction and motivational engagement.
• Must possess a Colorado driver’s license and auto insurance if driving is required.
• Credentialing, background checks, and required training within established timelines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive substance use screenings and assessments.
• Develop individualized, strength-based service plans with participants.
• Provide individual and/or group counseling using MI, CBT and harm reduction.
• Apply trauma-informed care, crisis response, and safer practices.
• Facilitate referrals, linkages, and warm handoffs to appropriate levels of care.
• Maintain accurate clinical and service documentation per regulatory and agency standards.
