Job Title: Transporter
Entity: Lancaster General Hospital
Location: 555 N Duke St, Lancaster, PA 17602
Hours: .5 FTE (20 Hours per week) 12:00PM-10:00PM, weekends only: Saturday and Sunday
Position Summary:
  • To greet, guide and transport in-patients within the hospital setting for all departments. Transport equipment and supplies within the hospital setting. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: pediatric (0 days through 12 years), adolescent (13 through 18 years), adult (19 through 64 years), and geriatric (65 years and above).
Responsibilities:
  • Perform patient transfer on and off appropriate transport equipment.
  • Transport scheduled patients to all areas of the hospital. Retrieve and deliver equipment, patient transporting aids, and supplies.
  • Complete cleaning tasks utilizing OSHA standards. Perform maintenance and/or inventory of equipment according to department standards.
  • Monitor the condition of wheelchairs and litters and initiate repair through appropriate communication channels.
  • Monitor and maintain transport system including computerized transport schedules.
  • Demonstrate computer skills necessary to perform department specific responsibilities.
  • Depending on location, reschedule patients and handle phone calls.
  • Document accurately and timely, according to department standards.
  • Report promptly unusual situations, reactions, effects or conditions related to patient care to the responsible person(s).
  • Provide basic comfort, support and safety needs of patients.
  • Act as a patient advocate by resolving patient/family concerns through appropriate actions.
  • Respond properly to emergency situations.
  • Identify learning needs and seek available resources and opportunities.
  • Complete assignments within designated shift.
  • Respond promptly to requests for assistance.
  • Respect patient rights and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate concern and respect for others' thoughts and feelings and handle conflicts positively.
  • Accept accountability, as an individual and as a team member for all services provided.
Credentials:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • CPR Certification (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Completion of the educational requirements (additional formal education training; maximum supervision for initial competency; high risk factors; yearly competency evaluation and training).
  • Ability to continually prioritize work responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver accurate and efficient results.
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal and communication (verbal and written skills) when dealing with patients, family members and staff.
