SUMMARY:
Collects and transports a variety of medical specimens, documents, and packages on and off the TMC campus. Handles incoming and outgoing US mail. Transports patients as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to TMC organizational and department specific safety, sanitation, confidentiality, standards of behavior and values of Compassion, Community, Dedication, and Integrity. Works collaboratively and supports efforts of other team members.
- Exhibits excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with visitors and staff as well as with other hospitals that use services.
- Completes assignment log and obtains authorized signatures for each assignment. Records time of departure, destination, cargo and expected time of return.
- Sorts and processes incoming and outgoing mail. Collects and delivers mail, enters departmental correspondence, supplies, and other items as directed.
- Collects, weighs and affixes proper postage to outgoing mail/parcels sent to domestic and international destinations.
- Interprets and implements all US Postal Services rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Operates industrial computer-based mail machinery.
- Balances figures, computes totals, and performs basic mathematical calculations.
- Develops and maintains necessary records and files for efficient operation.
- Maintains confidentiality concerning files or other documents and materials handled.
- Maintains petty cash fund and submits appropriate documentation.
- Operates a personal computer, calculator, FAX machine, copy machine or related office machinery in performing assigned duties.
- Collects specimens as directed and takes them to laboratory for analysis, using appropriate or specified equipment handling specimens.
- Operates a motor vehicle and ensures compliance with applicable motor vehicle laws.
- Transports and delivers material and supporting documentation to the hospital.
- May perform duties of Transporter I as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the job and the occasional exposure to hazardous working conditions.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of transporting experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Heartsaver CPR (HSCPR or HSFACPR) certification. Valid AZ driver’s license preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of safety practices used in the transporting of personnel or merchandise.
- Skill in following directions and maintaining work documentation.
- Ability to read or listen and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.
- Ability to read a clock and accurately document time.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
