Job description

Position Summary

This self-motivated team member works independently and in a team setting to transport patients, equipment, supplies, and lab specimens throughout the hospital. The transporter assists patients in getting on and off beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs, and maintains a clean and safe environment by disinfecting equipment before and after patient use.

Responsibilities

  1. Essential Functions
  2. Provides safe and efficient transport of patients across the hospital, assessing each patient to determine the best transport method.
  3. Communicates vital patient information with department managers, group leads, and relevant team members.
  4. Meets individual productivity standards as set by the department.
  5. Transports charts and specimens efficiently and maintains confidentiality.
  6. Ensures all transportation equipment is clean and sanitary.
  7. Uses the Epic Transportation Dispatching system effectively.
  8. Demonstrates outstanding customer service aligned with Orlando Health's mission, vision, and values.
  9. Informs relevant departments of delays proactively.
  10. Prevents fire and safety hazards by storing equipment properly.
  11. Adjusts oxygen flow and determines cylinder volume; understands tank gauge operation.
  12. Safely removes telemetry units from patients.
  13. Performs Independent Double Verification using two identifiers and scans patient wristbands.
  14. Follows hospital policies on safety, dress code, attendance, punctuality, and ID display.
  15. Handles confidential information per HIPAA and handoff policies.
  16. Works cooperatively with team members to meet patient and departmental needs.
  17. Assists with the disposition of deceased persons to morgue or body cooler.
  18. Distributes and retrieves clinical equipment across the facility.
  19. Maintains and restocks equipment and supplies.
  20. Transports medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs).
  21. Performs additional duties as needed to support departmental operations.
  22. Maintains regular and punctual attendance per policies and standards.
  23. Complies with all hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  1. Education/Training
  2. Ability to read and recognize similarities and differences in words and numbers.
  3. Ability to write simple correspondence and respond to inquiries or complaints.
  4. Proficient in using department computer systems such as Epic, Bed Tracking, Service Response, and Outlook Email.
  5. Completion of mandatory educational training.
  6. Licensure/Certification
  7. BLS/Healthcare Provider certification within 90 days of hire; renewed every two years.
  8. Experience
  9. Six months of customer service or volunteer experience preferred.
